Jefferson - The seventh annual Jefferson Winterfest will take place from noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, at Camp Jefferson, 81 Weldon Rd., in the Lake Shawnee section of the township. All activities are free. Refreshments will be available for a nominal fee. The Jefferson Recreation Dept. has planned an afternoon of indoor and outdoor activities for all age groups, including a bonfire, sledding, and ice skating. In addition, the Jefferson Public Library will host two story times for children, at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., in the Community Lodge. Free hot chocolate and cookies will be available for the children during the story time session sessions. For the fourth straight year, the Recreation Dept. will request donations for a food bank collection to assist in stocking the township’s food pantry for the needy. Those attending Winterfest are asked to bring a non-perishable food item, especially canned tuna or meats, soups, beef stew, corned-beef hash, peanut butter and jelly, spaghetti sauce, macaroni and cheese, non-refrigerated canned/bottled juices, canned or powdered milk, cereal, and crackers. Also needed are paper products such as toilet paper, paper towels, or other paper products. However, any non-perishable food item or paper product will be accepted. No snowboarding or skiing will be permitted, and a parent/guardian must accompany children under 14. In the event of inclement weather, the Winterfest will be rescheduled for Saturday, Feb. 25.
