— Christopher Boes is this week’s player of the week for the Highlander football team in their heartbreaking 19-6 loss to Bergenfield.

Chris, who typically plays only on the defensive side of the ball, made his way to the offensive side starting at right guard for the first time. He finished the game with five tackles on defense against a strong Bergenfield running attack. Offensively, Chris and his fellow offensive lineman and fullback, paved the way for the Highlanders who rushed for a total of 129 yards.

Chris is a two-sport athlete who also participates on the Highlander baseball team.

"Chris is one of the most coachable kids on the team," said head football Coach Don Dougherty. "The staff always looks for a player who will say 'I’ll do it if it helps the team, Coach.' That is the kind of character that allows Chris to be a good example for his teammates."

This was the final home game for the Highlander football team, as all seniors were honored before the game.

The Highlanders next game is Saturday, Oct. 27, against Tenafly High School. Game time is 1 p.m.
