West Milford - On Dec. 6, the Vernon Vikings went to West Milford for the third of six scrimmages designed to get players into game condition and test themselves against schools they won’t face once the Sussex County Interscholastic League season gets underway. A scrimmage may last three hours by the time all the various squads - varsity, JV, eight-grade - have played multiple quarters of basketball. Vernon scrimmaged JP Stevens and Barringer before West Milford and Hawthorne Christian, Lakeland, and Marist afterwards, with the last scrimmage taking place on Dec. 13. The SCIL season begins Friday, Dec. 15, with a home game against arch-rival Sparta. After games against Kittatinny and Jefferson, the team will participate in the Delaware Valley Holiday Tournament from Dec. 27-30. Photos by Russ Crespolini
