D'Elena snaps tie with game-winning goal

    Dan D'Elena captured the spotlight as he began his senior soccer season snapping a 1-1 deadlock by netting the game-winning goal. In defeating Hudson Catholic in a non-conference match played Friday afternoon in West Milford. D'Elena, a senior midfielder, drilled the game-winning tally into the Hawks' cage in the 34th minute to break the tie. Mike Fafara had deadlocked the contest for the Highlanders' three minutes earlier when he converted an assist from senior midfielder Chris Guadagno. Sophomore goal keeper Nick Resavy earned the starting assignment between the pipes and picked up the "W" in the goal when he recorded 13 saves. On Monday afternoon, the Highanders dropped a 2-1 decision to Passaic Valley in a Northern Hills Conference - Skyline Division match. Kyle Gilroy scored in the opening half off an assist from Guadagno.
