Fastest Kid on the Block race

    Sugar Loaf - The Sugar Loaf art and craft hamlet’s “Fastest Kid on the Block” footrace that was rained out twice this past summer has been rescheduled as part of Sugar Loaf’s annual fall festival on Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 9. The 50-meter sprint down King’s Highway is open to runners of all ages and the first age group race begins at 9 a.m., rain or shine. Race day registration will start at 8 a.m. in front of the Barnsider Tavern. Participants under 18 years of age must have a guardian sign the consent form. The races are broken into men’s and women’s age group divisions; 5-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-14, 15-16, 17-19, 20 and over. The Sugar Loaf Community Vision Committee is hosting the races and all proceeds go to the not-for-profit committee to be used on projects improving Sugar Loaf’s beauty, safety and accessibility. The committee is currently is funding a master plan for the hamlet. Entry fee is $10 and all participants will receive a “Fastest Kid on the Block” ribbon. Winners in each division receive handmade loving cup or mug by Sugar Loaf Potter Ray Boswell; each ceramic cup will be stamped: “Fastest Kid on the Block, Sugar Loaf, NY.” King’s Highway will be closed to vehicular traffic from 8 until 11 a.m. and event parking is at the Lycian Centre.
