First-week results in Hobb Engler Little League

    Byram - In the Junior League opener, the Byram Shop Rite Yankees defeated the Exoticustom Cardinals, 13-9. Matt Chletsos of the Yankees was 2 for 3 with a walk and a double in the win. Exoticutom’s Brian Endahl was also 2 for 3 with a double and a walk in the loss. Travis Ressa of the Yanks pitched three strong innings and gave up no runs on one hit. In the Majors on opening day, the Columbia Valley Campground Cards defeated the Jefferson Lakes Devil Rays 6-5. Matt Amoroso singled in the game winner in the bottom of the sixth with the bases loaded to break a 5-5 tie. Zack Southard homered for the D-Rays. Powered by four home runs, the Tomahawk Lake Dodgers hammered the Panther Lake Mets, 24-1. Tommy Kimiker hit two homers and also struck out 11 batters while pitching four innings. Matt Hill and Stephen Conrad hit the other two Dodger homers. Brian Tufaro had two hits and the lone RBI for the Mets. The Cards next defeated the Dodgers, 9-1. Kenny Costa doubled in three runs and Tyler Garrison doubled in two runs. The Dodgers loaded the bases four times, but the Cards managed to escape each threat. The Mets fell to the K&N Sporting Goods Orioles of Lackawanna, 17-8. In their next game, the Mets lost to the D-Rays, 7-6, on Joe Ottavio’s single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth. Zach Samiljan doubled and tripled for the D-rays and had two RBIs. Nick Rafferty tripled for the Mets. The Dodgers beat the D-Rays, 2-1, on Saturday on the combined pitching efforts of Tommy Kimiker, Stephen Conrad and Danny Murname. The Cardinals wrapped up the week with an 11-7 win over the Mets. Tyler Garrison had three hits and three RBI for the Cards. Chris Hosler added a double and a triple. In the Minors, the Frogmore Country Store Blue Claws came back from a 5-0 deficit to defeat the Take It 4 Granite Dragons, 8-7. Nick Pitch went four for four with two singles, a double and a triple for the Blue Claws. The Elite Automotive Riverdogs defeated the Sidoti Dental Mud Cats, 12-5, behind the five-hit pitching of Frank Cutrone, Adam Varian and Chris Sclafani. Sclafani and Quincy Samson combined for seven RBI for the Riverdogs. Vinny and Dominick Garatino had two RBI each. The Frogmore Blue Claws then defeated the Mud Cats, 12-5, extending their lead in the top of the sixth with four runs. The Riverdogs next defeated the Blue Claws, 8-6, in a game shortened by darkness. The Riverdogs offense was led by Robert Lindsey and Jesse Rode, who combined for six hits and six RBI. Adam Varian pitched another strong game, allowing only one run while striking out four. Evan Cartwright struck out five Riverdogs, and Ryan Linder tripled for the Blue Claws.
