— There wasn't much scoring last week in the Highlander field hockey games but West Milford picked up three wins and fell to its rival Lakeland last Saturday.
With 12 shots on goal, West Milford beat River Dell 1-0 on Sept. 24. Maura Dunlop scored the only goal with an assist from Megan Chiovaro. Senior goalkeeper Jenna Bednarofsky held her ground, earning herself another shut out.
On Thursday, Sept. 27, the Lady Highlanders won another 1-0 game against Demerest. Senior forward Stephanie Buechel netted her first goal of the season with the assist from Maura Dunlop. Sophomore goalie, Bre Csakvary, earned her first shut out on the varsity field.
Then the Highlanders went up against Lakeland Regional High School, and ended up on the losing side of a 1-0 game.
This past Monday, Oct. 1, the Lady Highlanders beat Old Tappan by a score of 1-0 again. With 12 shots on goal, Callie Schultz got the ball into the goal after captain Gianna Galioto made a breakaway down the field and brought the ball into the circle. Bednarofsky had three saves, successfully keeping Old Tappan from scoring.
