    Sparta 57, PJ 27 Lauren Baker and Kelly Keil posted double-double performances as Sparta cruised to a 57-27 victory over Pope John in an SCIL girls’ basketball game played Friday. Baker netted 13 points and grabbed 13 rebounds while Keil dumped a game-high 18 points into the basket and pulled down 14 boards. PJ 57 Marymount 51 On Saturday, Pope John rebounded to defeat Marymount (NY) 57-51 in a non-league clash. Vanessa Moore, a frosh, topped PJ with 15 points while Katy Mabunay added 10. Taylour Allen and Gabby Magdaleno contributed nine points apiece. Newton 56 Lenape 49 Whitney Dugan was chosen the SCIL/Richards and Summers Player of the Week after leading Newton to a 56-49 win over Lenape Valley. Dugan posted a double-double, pumping 15 points into the basket and grabbing 13 rebounds with a dozen of her points coming in the first eight minutes when the Braves moved out to a 18-12 lead. Jess Doherty added a 13-point effort for Newton and Kelli Smith added 10. Kat Tablado tallied a team-high 15 points for LVR with Tricia DiPaolo adding 13. Jefferson 56 High Point 46 Trailing 13-7 after eight minutes, Jefferson went on an 18-8 run in the second quarter to build a 25-21 lead by the intermission in defeating High Point 56-46 in a battle for second place in the SCIL standings. Brittany Gerritsen tallied a team-high 10 points with Dedra Pricthard tossing eight into the basket for the Falcons. Mikayla Wingle finished with a double-double for the Wildcats, scoring 10 points and pulling down 10 boards.
