Wildcats to next level After winding up their 2004 season with a 14-6-2 record and making their fourth straight appearance in the NCAA tournament, Villanova looks to move to the next level in women's soccer and Ogdensburg's Kayley Guthire is expected to make major contributions. "Kayley has an excellent spring season," said seventh-year head coach Ann Clifton, who coached Randolph High School to a No. 1 ranking nationally before moving to the Main Line campus. "She has excellent vision and an ability to strike from defense. She can attack players on the flank and be a dangerous offensive threat when playing as a forward." As a true frosh, Guthrie played in 20 games with seven starts as the former Pope John standout scored one goal and dished out three assists for five points. Her first collegiate goal was a game-winner, as she netted the lone score in a 1-0 victory over Loyola and she played in all 10 Big East regular season games. Guthrie led Pope John to SCIL titles in 2002 and 2003 while excelling in the classroom as a Member of the National Honor Society. She played for the PDA Galaxy club team, leading the Galaxy to regional and state titles in 2003 as well as a third-place national finish. Majoring in Management Information Systems, she is the daughter of Kerry and Patty Guthrie and sister of Guthrie, the outstanding senior keeper on this year's Pope John girls' soccer squad. Her father played soccer at Siena.
