Highlander bowlers reach quarterfinals in state tournament

WEST MILFORD - The West Milford Varsity bowling team made it to the quarterfinals when it bowled at the New Years High School Team Championships Tournament held at Lodi Lanes Jan. 5.
The varsity team qualified in first place out of all 23 teams.
The bowlers were Amanda Finke (180, 164, 174), RJ Utter (189, 155, 161), Shane Yodice (174 - first game), Colin Goldberg (173 - second game), Nick Bartoli (193 - third game), Mikey Nicholas (204, 210, 202) and Tyler Nicol (236, 218, 184).
Tyler Nicol placed 7th for high series (638) and Mikey Nicholas placed 12th out of 115 individual bowlers.
Quarterfinals consisted of a best-of-3 baker games where each member of the five-person team bowls two frames in the same game.
Unfortunately, West Milford came up short by two pins losing to North Bergen in that round.
Semifinals were a best-of-3 baker games where Clifton defeated North Bergen and Howell defeated Mahwah.
In the final round, Howell defeated Clifton, 3-0 in a best-of-5 baker game series.
In regular match play this week, West Milford defeated Fairlawn 3-0.
Amanda Finke rolled a 205, 158, 183 (546 series); Mikey Nicholas shot a 178, 231, 210 (619), RJ Utter bowled a 184, 214, 205 (603), and Tyler Nicol rolled a 195, 235, 241 (671 series).
