WEST MILFORD — The 2012-2013 West Milford High School Varsity Ice Hockey team began its season last week with games Friday, Nov. 30, against Wayne Valley High School, and their home opener on Saturday against Indian Hills High School. Both games were at the Capital One Ice Vault Arena in Wayne.
This year the squad is led by senior Captains Eric Dykstra, Jesse Rohr, LJ Koch and junior Captain Ross Mantione. The 19-member team has been working since the conclusion of last year as a group and has high hopes of having a successful season.
Head Coach Dan Frey is optimistic about the future.
"The effort and dedication that these young men have exhibited since the end of last season has our coaching staff excited about the direction our program is headed," said Frey. "They have voluntarily worked on their own and as a team over the summer and fall to come into the season in hockey shape and most importantly bonding together as a team. As coaches we are looking forward to helping them reach their potential."
The 2012-2013 Highlanders will compete in the very competitive Big North Green conference, one of the strongest public conferences in the state, along with Lakeland, Mahwah, Ramsey, Ramapo, DePaul Catholic, Wayne Hills, Wayne Valley and Indian Hills.
The Highlanders will also face-off in the Passaic County tournament on Jan. 18-20, 2013 at Floyd Hall Arena against all of the top teams in Passaic County.
