The Highlanders boys lacrosse team finished the regular season with a 6-4 away win over Vernon on Monday.
While the victory gave the team a 13-5 record and kept them undefeated in league play, West Milford had already clinched the Kirst Division Title last week for the first time in program history with its win over Passaic Tech.
Ray Gorny continued his impressive season with five goals and an assist in the clinching win, while teammate Casey Fagan score five goals of his own.
Dylan Connors also scored two goals and had an assist in the match.
Following that win, the Highlanders lost a close match to Clifton in which Connors scored four more goals before the team bounced back later against Newark East Side.
West Milford took a 12-0 lead to halftime in that match and the Red Raiders were never able to recover. The final score was 15-0.
Gorny, Aidan Bolger, and Mike Podmokly each scored three goals in the landslide win, while Fagan added two more.
In Monday’s win over Vernon, the Highlanders scored five first-half goals, taking a 5-2 lead by the break.
The Vikings would score two goals in the final quarter, but it wasn’t enough.
Bolger and Shane Fava scored two goals apiece in the match, while Gorny and Fagan scored the team’s other two goals.
Gorny, who was named first team All-Passaic County, broke the school record for points in a season this year and has now reached 100 career goals.
Teammates Fagan and Connors earned second team All-Passaic County while Bolger and Ryan Pomeroy both received honorable mentions.
West Milford was scheduled to take on West Morris Central next in the first round of the NJSIAA North, Group 2 State Tournament on Wednesday.
