Byram - In minor league play, the Sidoti Dental Mudcats defeated the Sussex PBA Threshers, 3-2. A two-run homer by Tyler Rogers knotted the score. Kevin Fernley’s RBI single gave the Mudcats the lead for good. Zac Mazzansi pitched 3 innings for the Cats, followed by Tyler Rogers and Kevin Fernley to preserve the win. The Elite Auto Riverdogs beat the Take It For Granite Dragons, 8-7. Ryan Peach had the game winning RBI with a double in the bottom of the sixthth inning. The Riverdogs were again led by Adam Varian, who pitched three strong innings and had three hits and two RBI on offense. In a losing effort, the Dragons were led by Danny Lubertazzi and Eddie Lehr, who combined for five hits. The Riverdogs also beat the Dairy Queen Thunder, 13-5, improving their record to 4-1. The Riverdogs’ offense was led by Adam Varian, who had two hits, three RBI, and scored three runs. Chris Sclafani was the winning pitcher, striking out six. Jeremy Nowling had two hits, including a long double, for the Thunder. In major league play, the Columbia Valley Campground Cardinals fared better than two other Hobb Engler Majors teams against teams from Hopatcong. The Cards won, 14-7, as Kenny Costa and Danny Wertman each collected two hits. The Panther Lake Mets fell, 21-5, and the Jefferson Lake D-Rays lost, 20-0, against the out-of-town teams. Later in the week, Columbia Valley bested Panther Lake, 7-2. Chris Hosler hit a double and triple while posting five strikeouts against the Mets. Kenny Costa struck out four batters in three innings as the starter for the Cardinals. At the instructional level, Austin Markferding pulled off an unassisted triple play for the Towne Toyota Pirates. He snagged a line drive, doubled the runner off who left second, and tagged out the runner coming from first.
