Kelty, Brijbag play lacrosse at Caldwell

Several local student athletes competed in collegiate sports during the spring:

• Olivia Brijbag (West Milford High School) and Janea Kelty (West Milford/St. Mary High School in Rutherford) were on the Caldwell University women’s lacrosse team.

Kelty, a graduate student, played midfield in 13 games and started in 12 of them. She had six goals, seven assists and won 12 ground balls.

Brijbag, a freshman, was a defender in three games and started in one of them. She won one ground ball.

The Cougars won two games, both against opponents in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC).

• Kyle Bednarski (West Milford High School), a junior, was a right-handed pitcher for the baseball team at Felician University in Rutherford.

He took part in 18 games and started in two of them. His pitching record was 5-1, and he had an earned run average of 3.00 while striking out 16 batters.

The Golden Falcons’ overall record was 43-22, with a mark of 18-7 on their home field. In the CACC, they went 28-8.

Felician went 4-2 in the CACC tournament with victories over Post University (twice), Dominican University and Jefferson.

The Golden Falcons also competed in the NCAA tournament, where they topped Pace University, Wilmington University, Molloy University and Franklin Pierce University (twice) to earn a spot in the NCAA Division II World Series. Felician was defeated by the University of Tampa and the University of Texas at Tyler in that World Series, held in Cary, N.C.

Bednarski is listed as a business administration major.

• Christian Aiello (West Milford High School), a junior, was a pitcher for the baseball team at Rider University in Lawrenceville.

The Broncs posted an overall record of 34-18, with a mark of 14-6 on their home field. In the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), they went 22-6.

Rider advanced to the MAAC Championships held at Clover Stadium in Pomona, N.Y., where the team defeated Quinnipiac twice and lost to Fairfield twice.

• Chloe Brijbag (West Milford High School), a freshman, competed in throwing events for the women’s outdoor track and field team at Montclair State University. She placed sixth in the shot put event at the Muhlenberg Invite in Allentown, Pa.

The Red Hawks placed fourth in the team scoring at the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championships hosted by the College of New Jersey in Ewing.

Brijbag is listed as an elementary education major.
