The West Milford High School varsity field hockey team lost to West Essex 8-0 on Tuesday in the semifinal round of the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 2 tournament at West Essex.

The loss followed a big win in the quarterfinal round last Friday, in which the Lady Highlanders were able to upset the fourth-seeded Sparta and advance to the semifinals.

West Milford entered the tournament as the fifth seed, while West Essex entered as the top.

Lady Highlander goalie Emily Sheridan had 14 saves in the losing effort against West Essex on Tuesday, which gave the team a season-ending record of 11-7-2.

Sheridan also had 13 saves in the quarterfinal victory over Sparta, while teammate Kayla Siemer scored the only goal in the 1-0 win after a scoreless first half.

Going into the quarterfinal victory, West Milford was coming off of another win over River Dell on Oct. 23.

Lady Highlanders Meghan Rampolla and Amanda Finke each scored a goal in that 2-0 away win, while sophomore Sofia Marotta assisted on both.
