Stockholm’s Michael Burghoffer won the 20th Annual Lincoln Tunnel 5K Challenge contested under the Hudson River on Sunday morning. The 20-year-old was presented the Fred Muser Memorial Award for the winning the event that started and ended in Weehawken with a clocking of 16:29. The pack entered the South Tube, raced under the Hudson River into New York City, then returned to New Jersey. The roadway had been washed and de-greased on Saturday night and the air was changed every 90 seconds with fresh air originating high above the river. Andover’s 51-year-old Nancy Gallo finished first in the women’s 50 to 59-year age division, posting a clocking of 29:08. Stockholm’s 20-year-old Alexander Wright and Newton’s 48-year-old Guy Gordon picked up runnerup awards in their age brackets, while Hamburg’s 14-year-old Justin Krasnomowitz finished in third place.
