Newton - Now in its 13th consecutive year, The Annual Max McGuire Memorial Golf Tournament raised over $17,000 this year, according to Mike McGuire, President of McGuire Chevrolet Cadillac. The monies raised from the tournament have been dedicated to the Women’s and Children’s Pavilion at Hackensack University Medical Center. McGuire said that his father’s successful business career began in Bergen County; hence, the family’s commitment to that hospital, which is used also by Sussex County residents due to its expanded care capabilities. The tournament is named in honor of McGuire’s father, Max McGuire, who owned and operated J. R. Roof Automotive (now known as McGuire Chevrolet Cadillac) from 1981 until his death in 1994. Max McGuire also owned Auto-Hire Leasing and Rent-A-Car and McGuire Chevrolet in North Bergen. Over its tenure, the Max McGuire Memorial Golf Tournament has raised nearly $300,000. In addition to the Women’s and Children’s Pavilion, the monies have funded the Children’s Priority Care Program, which includes Pediatric Emergency Room Services/Pediatric Urgi Center and a roof top garden. The garden bears the name of Max McGuire. McGuire Chevrolet Cadillac, is located in downtown Newton, adjacent to the square.
