Vernon - The 2006 U.S. Snowboard Olympic Team is taking shape, and the field has been set for the final Chevrolet U.S. Snowboard Grand Prix halfpipe competition at Mountain Creek, which will also determine the U.S. Olympic Halfpipe Team. Following the second Grand Prix stop at Mt. Bachelor, Ore., Shaun White clinched a spot on the team by claiming his third straight Grand Prix victory. White, who wowed crowds and judges alike at the earlier Breckenridge stop with back-to-back 1080s, dazzled onlookers Sunday as well. Heading into Torino, White said hell work on incorporating three 1080s into his run, so the event in Jersey should be a real crowd pleaser. Gretchen Bleiler won her second Chevrolet U.S. Snowboard Grand Prix, landing in the top womens spot, with Hannah Teter and Elana Hight rounding out the top three. The U.S. Olympic Snowboard Halfpipe Team will qualify exclusively through these three Chevrolet U.S. Snowboard Grand Prix events, with scoring based on the best two-out-of-five halfpipe contests. The elite field at Mountain Creek has been determined by the results of the earlier contests and is made up of those athletes best qualified to make the Olympic Halfpipe Team, including: Women: Rank Name Points 1 Gretchen Bleiler 2000 2 Hannah Teter 1800 3 Elena Hight 1400 4 Tricia Byrnes 1050 5 Lindsey Jacobellis 860 6 Molly Aguirre 850 7 Kelly Clark 760 8 Ellery Hollingsworth 690 9 Clair Bidez 680 10 Eliza Greene 650 11 Sabrina St. Marie Top 25 12 Krissy Faga Top 25 13 Joanie Anderson Top 25 Men Rank Name Points 1 Shaun White 2000 2 Mason Aguirre 1600 3 Danny Davis 1200 4 Ross Powers 1090 5 Scott Lago 1050 6 Andy Finch 1000 7 Daniel Kass 900 8 Steven Fisher 720 8 Jarret Thomas 720 10 Kevin Pearce 710 11 Tommy Czeschin 640 12 Chad Otterstrom 620 13 Keir Dillon 610 14 Louie Vito 560 15 Michael Goldschmidt 550 16 Rob Kingwill 400 17 Luke Mitrani 380 17 Jack Mitrani 380 19 Luke Wynen 320 20 Tyler Emond 280 21 Abe Teter Top 25 22 Wyatt Caldwell Top 25 23 Travis Rice Top 25 24 Pat Moore Top 25 25 Elijah Teter Top 25 The 2006 Grand Prix season features one of the largest overall purses for a snowboarding series; prizes total more than $340,000 and include two new Chevrolet trucks awarded to the male and female overall Grand Prix winners, along with the best broadcast package for the sport on NBC and OLN.
