Byram - The Elite Automotive Riverdogs finished first among seven teams in the Hobb Engler minor league division, and the Tomahawk Lake Dodgers finished atop the major league division, after defeating the Columbia Valley Campground Cardinals, 12-1, in a one-game playoff. In their final game, the Riverdogs (8-2) defeated the Take it For Granite Dragons, 10-7. Chris Sclafani went four for four with a double and long home run. Frank Cutrone had three RBI and Patrick Togno added another two RBI for the Dogs. Shaun Tatka made two sparkling defensive plays to end Dragon rallies. The Dragons were led by David DelSontro, who was two for two with a home run. In the major league championship game, the Dodgers (8-6) of Tomahawk Lake jumped to an early lead on a solo home run by Stephen Conrad over the center field fence in the top of the first. The Cards (7-7) tied the game in the bottom of the inning as Chris Hosler led off with a single, stole two bases and scored on a ground ball to the shortstop. The Cardinals were held to that one run as Tommy Kimker went on to pitch a one hitter, striking out 16. Kimker also smacked a home run in the second inning to lead the Dodgers to victory and the major league championship. All Star competition begins this week for Hobb Engler Little League teams competing in District 20. The Hobb Engler Family picnic, rained out last weekend, will be held at 5 p.m. this Saturday at C.O. Johnson Field.
