Sparta's Bill Bosmann turned in an outstanding effort, leading a pack of 21 local residents to the finish of the 21st Annual Liberty Waterfront Half-Marathon on Sunday in Hudson County. The 55-year-old placed 52nd in the field of 934 runners who completed the USATF-certified fast and flat course that provided a picturesque view of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Verrazzano Bridge and the Manhattan skyline. Bosman's time for the 12.4-mile event was 1:25:33, good for second place in the men's 55-59-year age division. Oak Ridge's Juliue Amsallen was the first local female runner to finish, placing 31st among the 323 females in the race. The 40-year-old picked up the third place award in the women's 25-29-year age division when she was clocked in 1:30:58. Picking up third place awards in their age divisions were 50-year-old Bill Plough of Hamburg and 64-year-old Hilary Peterlin of Oak Ridge. In the Waterfront 5K Run, Oak Ridge's 27-year-old Kyle Shanahaw finished 25th among the 243 runners who completed the 3.1-mile course, posting a clocking of 21:21. He finished second in the men's 25-29 age group. Stockholm's 47-year-old Nancy Regino, who finished 22nd among the 117 females in the event, won the women's 45-49 age bracket with a clocking of 26:34.
