— The Highlands Natural Pool is in its 18th season with a full schedule of programs, including swim lessons, life guard training course, deep-water aerobics, yoga, herbal walk and talk, and more. Registration is now open for swim lessons, life guard training course and water aerobics.

Swim lessons, from an instructor with over 20 years of experience, will be offered in small groups for children of all ages. Lessons are on Tuesday and Thursdays morning, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, beginning July 9, for four weeks. The cost is $90 for members, $125 for non members. Evaluations will be conducted to determine skill level before lessons are given. Private lessons are also available for children and adults.

The life guard training course will be given on two consecutive weekends in July: Saturday and Sunday July 13 and 14, and Saturday and Sunday July 20 and 21, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. This challenging, American Red Cross certified course is available to participants who will be 15 years old by the completion of the course. Cost is $350 and includes all course materials.

Deep-water aerobics class will help tone your body while having fun in the beautiful outdoor setting. Classes will be held on Monday and Wednesday mornings, from July 8 through 24, from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. The cost is $10 per class or $50 for the six classes. A noodle will be provided if participants don't have their own.

The Highlands Natural Pool is a stream-fed, fresh water, chemical-free pool built with stone retaining walls, surrounded by poplars and evergreens. The Olympic-size pool runs in depth from one inch to 11 feet, with both sun and shade areas. It has a low dive, a safe fenced-in area for children, and a snack stand with regular favorites as well as healthy alternatives. There are picnic tables and grills for barbecuing, access to volleyball and ping pong, and a grass recreation field.

The pool is open every weekend in June, then full-time beginning on June 24. Day passes are available for adults 18 and over for $10, young adults 13 to 17 years old for $5 and kids 12 and under for $3. Memberships are also available.

The pool is located adjacent to the Norvin Green State Forest and its 24 miles of marked hiking trails.
