The fledgling Spartra High School varsity ice hockey team improved its overall record to 4-4 and divisional record to 3-1 Sunday with a 10-2 drubbing of Eastside High School at Sport-o-Rama ice rink in Monsey, N.Y. Senior co-captain Nick Podkowik returned in spectacular fashion from a knee injury that sidelined him for two weeks with three goals and three assists. Junior co-captain Matt Tantillo continued his torrid scoring pace with two goals and three assists, giving him 19 points on the young season. Scott Distefano added two goals and one assist. Mike Postorino, John Vrabel and Chris Vargas also tallied goals for the Spartans. Freshman goaltender Chris Pszonek had 14 saves. Sparta’s next contest will be tough one as they visit Northern Conference, Blue Division leader Passaic Valley at Floyd Hall Arena in Montclair on Saturday, Jan. 14.
