Hamburg - The Sussex County YMCA is offering two American Red Cross community safety classes, beginning with cardiopulmonary resuscitation on Jan. 5. First aid and automated external defibrillation training will follow on Jan. 12. The classes, open to non-members as well as members of the YMCA, will be held at the Sussex County YMCA, 15 Wits End Road, Hardyston. The community CPR class will be held from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 5. This hands-on training prepares participants to recognize and respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies for adults, children and infants. The first-aid and AED training will take place from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 12. This course combines first-aid training with instruction in automated external defibrillation, the two skills needed to save the life of a sudden cardiac arrest victim. Participants will learn basic first aid techniques and be trained to recognize and respond to emergencies with first aid and/or an AED. “These classes can help benefit a number of people by teaching important skills that could one day save a person’s life,” said Maureen Tsadilas, aquatic director of the Sussex County YMCA. “Completion of this course is also an excellent resume builder for people in a variety of professions.” Cost of enrollment for each class is $45.
