Tommy Gillespie excels for Highlanders

— Thomas Gillespie is this week’s player of the week for the Highlander football team.
"Tommy played a tremendous game in spite of learning and playing two new positions this week," said West Milford head football Coach Don Dougherty. "Tommy, who typically plays at inside receiver, moved to outside receiver due to injuries. Tommy also moved positions defensively at halftime from outside linebacker to corner in order to help and improve our defense."
Tommy had a season high, six tackles against Northern Highlands as well as recovered a fumble in the first quarter.
Tommy is a three-sport athlete at West Milford High School, excelling on the ski and lacrosse teams.
"Tommy leads his teammates by example," said Dougherty. "He may not be the most vocal player on the team, but he is without a doubt one of the hardest workers we have."
Despite the hard work of Gillespie and the rest of his Highlander teammates, they fell to Northern Highlands by a score of 24-0 last week.
The Highlanders' next game is this Friday night against Ramapo High School at the turf field here in West Milford. Game time is 7 p.m.
