Vernon - The mighty mites of Vernon concluded their 2005-06 winter season on March 18 with a 5-2 victory over the Rangers, from Newburgh, N.Y., in the final game of the Mite Division playoffs at Ice Time Sports Complex in Newburgh. The Vernon squad advanced to the finals by defeating the Bruins, also from Newburgh, 4-1, in the semifinals. Vernon finished atop the Mite Division with a 15-3 record and 30 points in regular season play. Led by senior mites Raymond Zimmerman, Brandon Blankman, Jack Driscoll, Christian Capuano, Megan Graham, Michael Romanelli, Garrett Crift and Devin Walsh, Vernon’s high-powered offense posted a division high 111 goals, for an average of over 6 goals per game. Goalie Connor Torro and the Vernon defense allowed just over two goals per game in the team’s final 11 games of the season. Vernon’s five-year-old junior players Frank Annunziata, James Carelli, Patrick Graham and Anthony Pagliuco grew stronger as the season progressed. The squad was coached by John Driscoll, Todd Graham, Chris Capuano and Bill Walsh.
