— The Highlanders ran up against a very tough Old Tappan football team last Friday but senior Wesley Pierce managed to rack up 142 total yards in the 41-8 loss. Wesley was named player of the week by Coach Donald Dougherty.
"Wesley is a three-year starter at receiver, running back and corner," said Dougherty. "This past week, Wesley accounted for 142 yards total yards in the Highlanders 41-8 loss to a tough Old Tappan football team. He lead the team in rushing with 79 yards, had 16 yards receiving and 47 yards in kickoff returns. His exceptional play this week continued on the other side of the football. Defensively, he compiled six solo tackles and two assists."
Wesley is one of four team captains this season and is a standout three sport athlete competing in both winter and spring track, in addition to football.
"Wesley continues his college recruiting process with interest from Monmouth University and Indiana University," said Dougherty.
The Highlanders celebrate homecoming tonight, Friday, Sept. 28, against Weequahic High School. Come out to the West Milford turf field at 7 p.m. as the Highlanders look for their first win of this young season.
