The West Milford Highlanders won the Passaic County Coaches Tournament in a three-game series. In Game 1, the Highlanders beat Passaic Valley in a 5-1 match. West Milford left wing Andrew Atieh scored the first of his three-goal hat trick with an unassisted short-handed goal. Kevin Flynn then tipped in a Matt McCann slap shot from the left circle to make it 2-0. Atieh then made it 3-0 after two periods when Collin MacDonald made a great outlet pass to pick up the first of his two assists. Flynn then scored his second goal of the night during a short-handed play when he tipped in a center pass from McCann. Alex Barr got his second assist on that goal. PV scored their only goal of the game on the power play. Atieh finished off his hat trick with a backhand shot off the face-off with assists going to Conrad Weiss and Colin MacDonald. Ken Sushko defended the goal by deflecting 17 shots. Game 2 was a second round match against powerhouse Clifton, where the Highlanders set the tone with an exciting 7-2 win. Penalties plagued Clifton and the Highlanders took advantage early. Conrad Weiss scored a power play goal at 1:07 for the first period with assists going to Collin MacDonald and Corey Frew. Frew got his second assist of the night as he set up Andrew Atieh for a partial breakaway where he scored on a backhand shot through the five hole. Kevin Flynn then scored a short-handed goal with a one-timer set up by some hard corner work by Matt McCann. Flynn then returned the favor and set up line mate McCann with a breakout pass that he beat two defenders on to score. Clifton then scored a power play goal ending the second period with Highlanders 5-1. Clifton launched the third period by scoring another power play goal for a 5-2 match. Atieh quickly changed the momentum scoring his third goal on an unassisted breakaway. Mike Hamilton then finished off Clifton with a nice wrist shot in traffic that was set up with a center pass from line mate Ray Worley. Also playing well with assists in the game were Jared Fisher and Alex Barr. Defensemen Keegan Saum, Kyle Browne, and Jon Russo guarded the goal well to assist Ken Sushko in his rock solid performance of 22 saves. In the championship game against Wayne Hills, Collin MacDonald scored the first two goals with assists from Andrew Atieh, Alex Barr, and Conrad Weiss. Atieh then scored the first of his three-goal night, with assists going to Matt McCann and Keegan Saum. Wayne Hills then scored making it 3-1 Highlanders at the end of one period. The second period started with a 5 on 3 goal by Conrad Weiss. Set up by Saum and Atieh, Alex Barr then got in on the scoring with a nice snap shot upper left in another power play goal with assists going to Mac Donald and Weiss. Atieh then scored the next two goals to complete his hat trick, his third hat trick of the tournament, with Barr and Weiss assisting on those goals making it 7-1 at the end of two periods. With a Wayne Hills goalie change in the third period, the two teams played end to end hockey with the Highlanders controlling most of the play. Kyle Brown scored an unassisted goal from the point with a slippery wrist shot, and Ray Worley then sealed the convincing win with an unassisted goal with hard work from behind the net. The final score was 9-1 Highlanders. Goalie Ken Sushko was solid in net with 22 saves. Head coach Brian Jones, and assistant coach Mark Pych coached the team motivated to the finals.
