WEST MILFORD Summer Roller Hockey in West Milford, the original roller hockey in the area, is coming back for its 14th season. The program is for all kids aged 6 to 17 and is held in a regulation sized rink at the Hillcrest Community Center on Macopin Road starting in mid-June and continuing through late August. The excitement and energy that is hockey is captured in a safe, non-checking league divided into three divisions, Majors for 9 - 11 year olds, Juniors for 12 - 14 year olds and Seniors for 15 - 17 year olds. All games are approximately one hour and are played weekday evenings and Saturday mornings. Players of all talent levels are welcome. There will be an instructional mini-clinic for players ages 6 - 8, which will take place just prior to the regular season at Hillcrest. This clinic will consist of six one-hour sessions in June. Children who attend the mini-clinic will be eligible to participate in the regular summer roller hockey program. Shane Sudol, a 2002 graduate of West Milford High School and team Captain of the 2001 Passaic County Championship Highlander Ice Hockey team will conduct the clinic. He will be assisted by members of the Highlander Hockey elite of the present and past, as well as coaches from the West Milford Bears Ice Hockey program. Registration forms for both the regular season and the mini-clinic are available at the West Milford Parks and Recreation office located in Hillcrest Community Center. The cost for regular season play is $75 per player, which includes a practice hockey jersey, and the cost for the mini-clinic is $20 per participant, which includes a t-shirt.
