WAYNE — West Milford seniors won first place in the annual Tri-County Senior Citizen Olympics last week.

This year, the event was hosted by Wayne Township.

It was a very competitive event, with West Milford seniors edging out the always-tough Sparta team.

Each town that participates - Pequannock, Randolph, Rutherford, Sparta, Wayne and West Milford - has six teams of four participants. Each teams competes in six events including basketball, Frisbee golf, horseshoe throw, shuffleboard, soccer kick and the infamous chicken toss.

West Milford had its share of individual winners including gold medals for Sun Bolton and Carlo Fioranelli in horseshoes and Sal Leto in Frisbee golf; silver medals for Marilyn Lichtenberg in basketball, Pat Scarnella in soccer kick and Bill Novak in Frisbee golf; and bronze medals for John Picioccio in Frisbee golf and Dick Wirth in shuffleboard.

"West Milford Community Services & Recreation are extremely proud of the performance of our seniors," said Gail Kahler, supervisor of the West Milford Older Adult Services.
