WEST MILFORD The Wildcats-6 have two games remaining this season, both of which will determine league championships. On Friday, March 17, the West Milford will face Wayne PAL Blue at 6 p.m. in Wayne for the Wayne PAL Winter League title. Then, on Sunday, March 19 at 11 a.m. the Wildcats-6 will face Randolph at Morris Hills High School for the “Lakeland League” championship. To get to this point, the Wildcats-6 have won quite a few games in the past two weeks. On Friday, March 3, they topped a feisty Chester squad 49-38 in Round #1 of the Lakeland League playoffs . On Saturday, March 4, the team pulled off one of the biggest upsets in their storied history when they pulled out a 44-43 victory over a powerful Hackensack squad in their Wayne PAL Winter League Round #1 playoff game in Wayne NJ. Then, on Sunday, March 5, the Wildcats-6 team held off a pesky Wayne PAL Silver squad to earn a 49-44 victory in their Wayne PAL Winter League Round #2 playoff game. The following weekend, outlasted Vernon 49-39 in their second round Lakeland League playoff, making their 24th victory of the year. On Monday, March 13, the West Milford PAL Wildcats-6 climbed over Mount Olive 52-45 in their Lakeland League semi-final round playoff match up at Sparta Middle Scho. The victory lifted West Milford into the Lakeland League championship game against Randolph, where the Wildcats-6 will defend their 2005 league title. Josh Basket poured in 24 points for West Milford, including seven three pointers, some of which were shot from other time zones. Tyler Maurer’s aggressive drives to the hole produced another 16 points for the defending champions. Aidan Stewart (6), Nick Conlon (2), John Quazza (2), and Casey Terramoccia (2) also contributed with key buckets. West Milford’s tough interior defense shut down Mount Olive’s strong inside game. Basket (9 rebounds), Maurer (6), Stewart (6), Terramoccia (5), Buechel (4), Conlon (3), and Quazza (3) helped control the boards, while Maurer added four timely steals.
