Wolverines 11U win two more

    On Saturday, May 6, the West Milford Wolverines 11U Baseball Club thumped Chester 10-3. Zane Yuhas (3-IP, 4-K), Steven Cuccio (3-IP, 6-K, 0-R), and Andrew Clifford (1-IP, 1-K, 0-ER) provided solid pitching for West Milford. The Wolverines awoke in the third inning when Brian Harr was hit by a pitch. After Liam Stewart’s sacrifice bunt advanced Harr to second, Dominick Alheidt delivered a RBI single to score West Milford’s first run. Zach Day followed with an RBI double to give the Wolverines a 2-0 lead. In the fourth frame, Clifford’s leadoff walk was followed by a RBI base hit by Cuccio. Harr then socked a 2-RBI double, to give West Milford a 5-2 lead. In the fifth, Greg Tompkins’ 2-RBI single scored Alheidt and Eric Tompkins to increase the visitors’ lead to 7-2. In the sixth, consecutive singles by Cuccio and Nick Conlon were followed by Marc-Anthony Gonzalez’ sacrifice fly to improve West Milford’s lead to 8-2. The Wolverines completed their scoring in the seventh when Greg Tompkins blasted a two run homer, giving the Wolverines a 10-3 lead. The following day they hammered Long Valley 16-4 . The triumph improved West Milford’s record to 4-1 on the season. Evan Rapp (1-IP), Andrew Clifford (Win, 3-IP, 6-K, 0-R), and Steven Cuccio (2-IP, 0-R, 4-K) were strong on the hill for the Wolverines. In the home half of the second, Nick Conlon’s leadoff double was followed by Clifford’s RBI single. After Marc-Anthony Gonzalez and Zach Day walked, Conor Labita, Dominick Alheidt, Greg Tompkins, and Steven Cuccio smashed consecutive hits to give West Milford a 7-4 lead. In the fourth, Labita, Steven Sweigart, Rapp, and Cuccio laced base hits to make the score 10-4. In the fifth frame, Conlon’s leadoff double was followed by Clifford and Sweigart’s singles to extend the lead to 14-4. In the sixth inning, Greg Tompkins led off with a towering home run into the left field bleachers. After Rapp doubled, Conlon’s RBI single made the score 16-4, therefore exercising the 12-run mercy rule.
