On Friday, April 14, the West Milford Wolverines 12U Baseball Club blanked the N.J. Mariners 7-0 in their Triple Play Sports League opener in Lodi. West Milford received dominating mound performances from Karl Pappacena (Win, 4-IP, 2-H, 0-R, 3K) and Tim Scott (3-IP, 2-H, 0-R) to silence the Mariners’ bats. In the top of the first inning, Greg Tompkins blasted a home run to deep right center field, giving the visitors a quick 1-0 lead. In the second frame, Brett Peters walked, stole second, then scored when John Buechel reached on an error. Buechel’s crafty base running allowed him to score on a Mariners’ wild pitch, increasing West Milford’s lead to 3-0. In the third, Tompkins’ bunt single was followed by two stolen bases. Tyler Maurer executed a suicide squeeze bunt to score Tompkins with West Milford’s fourth run. In the fourth inning, Brett Peters crushed his first homer of the season to make the score 5-0. The Wolverines completed their scoring in the sixth after Maurer singled, Nick Conlon’s RBI base hit drove him home. Conlon later scored on an infield groundout to improve West Milford’s lead to 7-0.
