WEST MILFORD — In a hard fought best of three series the West Milford Xtreme softball team defeated Vernon Gold 4-3 in a deciding game held on June 25. Each team had won one game leading to the final showdown. After taking an early 1-0 lead, Xtreme saw Vernon come up with 3 runs in the 4th inning to take a 3-1 lead. The girls were determined to not let the game slip away. They scored one run in the 5th and then turned it up a notch in the 6th to score the tying and winning runs to bring home the championship. The district championship was the culmination of an impressive year that saw Xtreme compile a record of 33-16-3 and continuously make the semi-finals and finals each weekend at their tournaments. All the hard work throughout the fall, winter and spring certainly paid off! The Xtreme now moves on to the state finals in Mount Olive.
