Xtreme takes Mid Atlantic tournament

WEST MILFORD — The West Milford Xtreme 14U softball team ended a terrific season by winning the 2013 Babe Ruth Middle Atlantic Regional Tournament in Mt. Olive last weekend. This tournament was held from July 16 through 21 and consisted of the top Babe Ruth softball teams from New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware.

West Milford went undefeated in this double elimination tournament and played the previous year's winners, the Millville Allstars, for the championship. Since Millville had previously lost a game, they couldn't afford to lose another. West Milford had defeated Millville 4-1 in an earlier round to advance.

Millville rebounded and beat West Milford in the first game of the championship by a score of 10-0. West Milford rallied in the final game of the championship, beating Millville 7-3 to take the championship.

This year’s team played over 65 softball games while participating in 10 tournaments. In these 10 tournaments, the team made it to the championship game seven times and won five championships.
