This week we Take Five with Jack Romano, a West Milford High School student who definitely loves to perform. Jack has a starring role in this year’s musical, “Little Shop of Horrors,” which will be performed on March 10, 11, and 12 at the high school. It is a must see. Name: Jack Romano Age: 15 School: West Milford High School Activity: High School Musical: Little Shop of Horrors 1) How did you get involved with musical theater? In 6th grade, my teachers Mrs. Wells and Mrs. Marxen started a drama club at Paradise Knoll School. I was always into movies and theater, so I thought I would give it a try. I had fun and the audience seemed to like our show, so I joined the Drama Club and tried out for the musical at Macopin the following year. I had a small part in “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” and then I was cast as Conrad Birdie in “Bye Bye Birdie.” I loved being the Devil, Mr. Applegate, in “Damn Yankees” last year at the high school, and I can’t wait to play Seymour in this year’s production of “Little Shop of Horrors.” 2) What would most people be surprised to know about the musical? This year’s show, “Little Shop of Horrors,” is going to be a lot of fun - rock music and a man-eating plant. Tickets are on sale at the high school box office now. 3) Share a favorite moment with your drama club. My favorite part of being in musicals is seeing friends and family in the lobby after a performance and finding out that they enjoyed it. It’s rewarding to know that you made people laugh or smile. 4) What do you do with your time when you are not doing the play? I’m pretty busy since I take piano, voice, and acting lessons. And lots of homework too, too much homework. I am almost an Eagle Scout in Boy Scout Troop 151, but it’s getting harder and harder to fit in going to meetings with everything else going on. 5) Share something no one knows about you. I get really, really, really, really nervous before a performance. People don’t believe that when I tell them. 6) Who is your biggest inspiration? My biggest inspiration is all of the performers I see in Broadway shows. There is so much talent out there. I’m inspired and jealous. 7) Describe your support system. Friends and family. 8) What is your favorite movie and why? My favorite movie is called Music and Lyrics with Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore. 9) Name three things you would bring with you if you were on a deserted island. My iPod, my ukulele, and lots of ramen noodles. 10) What are your long term goals: Health and happiness, hopefully a career that involves the theatre in some way. Don’t be nervous, Jack, you’ll do great! And we’ll all be there to see it. Do you know someone who should be featured here in Take Five?
