This pileated woodpecker (Dryocopus Pileatus) was seen early Monday, Feb. 20 morning on Tice Road in Hewitt. The pileated woodpecker eats insects, fruits and nuts. It digs out large rectangular holes in trees to create nesting spots and expose insects. The pileated woodpecker is one of the largest in North America, averaging 15 inches in length.
