WEST MILFORD The West Milford Municipal Alliance C.A.S.A. (Community Against Substance Abuse) is taking part in a national effort to combat underage drinking. Called Town Hall Meetings, the program is designed to bring communities together to help awareness and change regarding underage drinking. C.A.S.A. is sponsoring a Town Hall Meeting titled “Start Talking Before They Start Drinking” with the help of a grant from the New Jersey Prevention Network. Parents and community members are urged to attend on Monday, June 5, at 6 p.m. in the West Milford High School cafeteria. The event is free and dinner will be provided. Scheduled guest speakers include the West Milford Police Department, Passaic County Sheriff Speziale, School Superintendent Glenn Kamp and students from West Milford High School. A short video will also be shown. Alcohol is the most widely used substance of abuse among America’s youth. A higher percentage of youth aged 12 to 20 use alcohol (29 percent) than use tobacco (24 percent) or illicit drugs (14 percent), making underage drinking a leading public health problem in the United States. No community is immune. Reservations are a must. Call or e-mail Marlene at 973-728-2860 or casa@westmilford.org by Wednesday, May 31.
