West Milford’s Christine Valerio turned on the speed down the stretch to overtake Andrea Rothschild of Northern Valley/Demarest and the Lady Highlander pulled away to win the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 1, Group III girls’ cross-country race by 60 yards. Valerio, the Passaic County champion, was clocked in 19:17 as she completed the 3.1-mile course at Garret Mountain on Saturday. 17:03 while Pompton Lakes’ Dane Bender placed fifth with a clocking of 17:12. Moving on to the NJSIAA Group championships races on Saturday at Holmdel Park in Monmouth County are the top 10 finishers and top five teams in each of the 32 public school groups.
