WEST MILFORD The proposal by the board of education to hand over its share in the Wallisch property to the township has raised issues over the land’s possible use. A feasibility report of the estate’s possibilities found that further development of the land was out of the question. A combination of wetlands and endangered species concerns prevent building on the property. In addition, buildings on the estate are in need of maintenance before they can be considered for use by the council or as a lease to a third party. Wetlands mitigation was the one use they discovered. This plan would charge construction companies who need to substitute wetlands for those lost to development. The board of education had proposed to give up its share of the Wallisch property in return for the council’s commitment to upgrade Hillcrest Community Center. The council continues to explore the cost of such a task and is likely to postpone a planned meeting with the board of education for June 10 until all costs and particulars are known. The Wallisch property, 85 acres located off Lincoln Ave., was donated to the board of education and the township jointly.
