Warwick Warwick resident Evelyn Rossi can’t wait to visit her tree. On Monday, Nov. 28, a crew from O’Sullivan Tree Service out of Blauvelt arrived at her Grand Street home on to remove the magnificent Norway Spruce that had stood in her front yard long before she moved into her house 24 years ago. By Saturday morning, Dec. 2, Rossi’s evergreen will be this year’s New York Stock Exchange Christmas Tree. And the tree removal company has promised her a limousine ride to the City to see her tree in all its splendor followed by a dinner at a Manhattan restaurant. Earlier this fall, James O’Sullivan, owner of O’Sullivan Tree Service, was scouting for an appropriate tree for the Stock Exchange when he passed by Rossi’s home. “I look for the same things that everybody looks for when they search for the perfect Christmas Tree,” Sullivan said, “except I multiply it by 10.” He explained that a Christmas tree candidate might meet some of his criteria such as having the right shape and being about 70 feet tall but not qualify because it sits too close to another tree. “That side will not be as full as the exposed side,” he said. O’Sullivan also added that, during the selection process, the homeowner is as important as the tree. “Evelyn Rossi was very cooperative,” he said. Although Rossi may miss her stately evergreen, the fact is that it had grown too large for her front lawn, blocking sunlight and overpowering other landscaping. O’Sullivan will replace the huge evergreen with a 10-foot Blue Spruce and also perform other landscaping and tree pruning services on her property. And Rossi is proud that millions of people will have an opportunity to see her tree dressed in bright lights for the holiday season. Another bonus was when the workers removed the tree, they could accurately answer an important question for Rossi. Her tree was 58 years old.
