WANAQUE-It was history in the making on July 20 in Wanaque as the American All Stars captured the first District Title ever for West Milford in the 11-year-old division as they beat Pequannock by a score of 5-2. The road to the title started a week prior as West Milford faced off against Ringwood in Game One. The team's 9-0 victory over Ringwood was the result of a stellar pitching performance by Brett Boes, backed up by a tight defense with Chad Strother behind the plate, Joe Lembo, Joshua McCann, Dylan Gleeson, Tyler Coyle and Jake Korinko playing infield and Chris LoPinto, Ryan Ost, John Proctor, Shane Dunlop and Eric Sajban managing the outfield. West Milford chalked up nine runs with the help of 3 RBI's by Tyler Coyle. The no hit shut out thrown by Boes was highlighted by 13 strikeouts. In Game Two of the tournament, West Milford edged out Pompton Lakes-Riverdale by a score of 2-1. Down by a score of 1-0 in the third inning, pitcher Eric Sajban kept his cool and worked his way out of a bases loaded jam. RBI singles by Dylan Gleeson and Brett Boes in the 4th and 5th innings gave West Milford the lead, as Sajban shut out PLR the rest of the way with a total of 10 strikeouts on the night. Game Three brought West Milford together with Pequannock for the first time and the competition grew strong as West Milford saw its first loss to Pequannock by a score of 9-3. Pequannock needed to beat West Milford one more time for the title in the double elimination tournament and the 11 year olds from West Milford weren't about to give up. In the Championship Game against Pequannock, West Milford came out swinging with a lead off double by Joe Lembo. Eric Sajban pitched out of the inning with the bases loaded in the 2nd and West Milford got on the board first with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning with a hit from Jake Korinko, a two-base blast by John Proctor and another RBI single from Joshua McCann. Pequannock came back to tie the game in the top half of the third inning but West Milford battled back with an RBI double by Jake Korinko that drove in Brett Boes for a 3-2 lead. West Milford added two more runs in the fifth inning as it loaded the bases to set the stage for an RBI single by Ryan Ost and a bases-loaded walk to Joshua McCann which forced in the final run. Catcher Chad Strother contributed by pounding out three hits on the day. The result: a 5-2 victory for the West Milford team of Manager Larry Strother.
