A driving while intoxicated arrest resulted from an Oct. 6 accident on Macopin Road. Police said Justin Ruit, 25, of West Milford, was pulling out of his driveway when his vehicle left the roadway to the right, striking a guide rail. The car returned to the road and crossed the double yellow line where it stuck the rear of a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. That car was driven by Dwayne Decesare, 49, of Oak Ridge. The car that was struck left the roadway, struck a flagpole and crashed through a garage at 1879 Macopin Road. Police issued Ruit a summons for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence and failure to drive within a single lane. He was transported to Chilton Hospital. Police Officer James McDaniel investigated. Another DWI arrested resulted from an accident on Route 23, on Oct. 8. Courtney Schwoebel, 20, of Oak Ridge, was driving while talking on a cell phone, police said. When she changed lanes, the vehicle turned over numerous times. Schwoebel was taken Chilton Hospital by the West Milford First Aid Squad. She was issued summons for underage DWI, reckless driving, failure to keep right and operating a motor vehicle while using a cell phone. Police Officer Jason Lowenfeld investigated. Other accidents were reported by police in October. On Oct. 19, Anne Schappell, 50, of Hewitt, was traveling west on Otterhole Road and Richard Rohr, 53, of West Milford, was traveling east on a motorcycle. Schappell was attempting to make a left turn into a driveway and Rohr was unable to stop. Rohr was thrown from the motorcycle. The ambulance responded and Rohr was flown to Morristown Memorial Hospital. Police Officer Laura Paul On Sept. 20, on Ridge Road, David Noerling, 52, of West Milford was traveling south on Ridge Road when the vehicle veered to the left side of the road and went through the stop sign without stopping. It struck the guide rail at the intersection of Ridge and Westbrook roads. Noerling was transported to Chilton Hospital and was issued summons for disregard of traffic signal. Police Officer James Fulton investigated. On Sept. 27, Bianca Stevens, 18, of West Milford, told police an unidentifiable animal darted into her path while she was traveling north on Warwick Turnpike. She said she attempted to avoid hitting the animal and ran off the roadway to the right before striking a utility pole snapping the pole in half. An investigation revealed the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of impact with the utility pole. Stevens and her passenger were transported to Morristown Memorial Hospital. Stevens was issued a summons for careless driving. Police Officer Anthony Frassa investigated. On Sept. 27, Shakeira Grimes, 19, of Hamburg was traveling north on Route 23 in the far right lane. Driver reported that she was just coming out of the curve in the roadway, entered a straightaway when she lost control of the vehicle. It spun twice and came to rest on the far right shoulder in a grassy, muddy area with large rocks and trees and small ditch. West Milford First Aid Squad responded and took Grimes Chilton Memorial Hospital. S&S towing responded and removed the vehicle. Grimes was issued a summons for careless driving. Police Officer Suzanne Novakowski investigated. On Oct. 3, Diane Wirth, 74, of Hewitt, was traveling southbound on Warwick Turnpike. When she was rounding a left bend in the road, her vehicle ran off the right side of the road and struck a large boulder. The vehicle spun to its left and turned on its left side. Wirth was trapped in the vehicle and fire companies had to extricate her. The Upper Greenwood Lake Volunteer Ambulance Corp #55 transported Wirth to Chilton Hospital. Police Officer Dennis O’Donnell investigated. On Sept. 30, Anthony Zajkowski, 68, of Ringwood, was traveling southbound on Warwick Turnpike when his vehicle hit first a vehicle driven by Christina Diprinzio, 59, of Warwick, NY, then a vehicle driven by George Wilson Jr., 44, of Hewitt. Both vehicles were struck head on. The Upper Greenwood Lake First Aid Squad responded and transported Diprinzio to St.Anthony’s Hospital in Warwick. Zajkowski was issued a summons for careless driving. Police Offocer Amy Hancock investigated. On Oct. 7, Desiree Mathews, 43, of Highland Lakes, was traveling south on Route 23 at Union Valley road when she struck Lorraine McCormick, 61, of Passaic, while she was walking. McCormick was struck in the left arm by the passenger side mirror. The West Milford First Aid Squad transported McCormick to Chilton Hospital. Police Officer Casey Casbarro investigated. Police made two arrests for driving while intoxicated. On Sept. 28, Roberta Perez, 54, of Carlstadt was driving on Union Valley Road when Officer Laura Paul observed his vehicle being driven in an erratic manner. Perez was arrested for DWI, processed and released pending a future court date. Police Officers Shannon Sommerville, James McDaniel, Anthony Frassa and Suzanne Novakowski responded to Macopin Road for a report on a motor vehicle accident with unknown injuries. When they arrived they found a 2001 GMC Jimmy on its roof facing north in the southbound lane. The operator, Kyle McCall, 22, of Newfoundland was out of the vehicle, but was injured. While speaking to the driver, police noticed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. McCall was taken to Chilton Hospital by the West Milford First Aid Squad McCall was arrested for DWI and issued summonses for reckless driving and failure to maintain a lane. Novakowski was the investigating officer.
