The Drowsy Chaperone’ production Tenafly It’s billed as the first ever high school production of “The Drowsy Chaperone” in the nation. The North Jersey Summer Theatre Workshop is presenting the show next week at Tenafly High School. And there are some very familiar faces in the show. Eleven of them to be exact. Yes, 11 West Milford young people are part of the show. They include Arden Winant, starring as Janet Van de Graaff, Jack Romano, co-starring as Feldzieg, Missy Lang, co-starring as Trix, Shannon Bruno, Devin Hanson, Maggie Latona, Megan Milko, Ian O’Loughlin, Haley Pilkington, Alison Sullivan and Jayce Winant. This is the story of a present-day musical theatre fanatic eager to tell about his favorite Broadway musical, “The Drowsy Chaperone.” He is the ultimate fan and “Drowsy” is his guilty pleasure. As he begins listening to the rare cast recording, the show cleverly and magically blooms to life, telling the hilarious tale of a pampered Broadway starlet and her debonair fiance, an overzealous producer, a dizzy chorine, the Latin lover and a couple of bumbling gangsters. Ruses are played, hi-jinks occur and the plot spins everyone into musical comedy euphoria. The North Jersey Summer Theatre Workshop is in its third year at Tenafly High School and has been running for the past 15 years, giving the most talented high school performers a chance to hone their craft and put on a professional-level musical over the summer. Previous shows include “Sweeney Todd,” “ Les Miserables” and The Who’s “Tommy.” The program is open to all northern New jersey high school students, from incoming freshman to outgoing seniors. And this year, the program has welcomed members of the original Broadway cast of “The Drowsy Chaperone,” conducting Q&A’s with students to help deepen their understanding of the material.
