Oct. 5 Theft - West Milford High School Victim (age 17) had $100 taken from purse, which was in an unlocked gym locker. P.O. Laura Paul Theft - West Milford High School Victim (17) had $200 taken from gym locker. P.O. Laura Paul Theft - West Milford High School Victim had $40 and jacket taken from gym locker. P.O. Laura Paul Theft - West Milford High School Victim (17) had $40 taken from gym locker. P.O. Laura Paul Theft - West Milford High School Victim (17) had $60 taken from gym locker. P.O. Laura Paul Oct. 3 - MVA/CDS - Macopin Rd. While on patrol on Oct. 3 Officers Christopher O’Connor and Stephen Braikovich was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Macopin Road below High Crest Drive. Upon arrival a Subaru was found to be on its roof blocking the northbound lane of Macopin Road. Driver, Steven M. Merkovic, age 22, West Milford, was standing beside the car uninjured. Driver stated he lost control due to the high rate of speed he was traveling; he crossed the center line of the road, struck a stone wall on the northbound side, then rolled the vehicle onto its roof where it came to rest in the center of the northbound lane. A passenger in the vehicle, Michael Shackelton, Passaic, Age 19, also appeared to be uninjured and stated he did not need medical attention. While at the accident scene officers observed a bag containing what appeared to be marijuana. Driver was placed under arrest for CDS, and transported to headquarters. He was released on summons for possession of CDS and reckless driving. P.O. Christopher O’Connor Sept. 21 - DWI - Macopin Road J.R. Allwood III, Vernon, Age 30 While on patrol Officer was dispatched to an overturned vehicle on Macopin Road. Vehicle was located. As the officer spoke with the driver he detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on the breath of the suspect. Driver was subsequently arrested for DWI. P.O. Charles McQuaid Sept. 21 - DWI - Westbrook Road Christopher Johnson, West Milford, age 21 While on patrol Officer was advised that an anonymous motorist had called headquarters and notified that a vehicle was being driven in an unsafe manner at the above location. Officer located the vehicle (red Mazda) on Echo Lake Road. Officer followed the vehicle and determined that the vehicle was in fact being driven in an unsafe manner, crossing the line and weaving in its lane. Driver was subsequently arrested for DWI. P.O. David VanDalinda Sept. 19 - MVA- Otterhole Road Marc Raoul, West Milford, Age 21 Witness reports that while in their house they heard skidding, looked out the window and viewed vehicle skidding across Otterhole Road with front of vehicle facing their house. Vehicle struck a utility pole and spun around striking mailboxes. Driver stated that while traveling south on Otterhole Road, he lost control, went off road and struck pole. Driver stated he was the only one in vehicle and was not injured. Driver was issued summons for DWI. Sept. 19 - Aggravated Assault - Otterhole Road Marc Raoul, West Milford, Age 21 While processing the accused above for DWI above subject was attended to by WMFAS. While a member of the WMFAS leaned over the accused, Raoul struck the ambulance squad member. Marc J. Raoul was released on summons for Aggravated Assault. P.O. Anthony Parrello Oct. 9 - Possession of CDS/Possession of unlawful weapon - Beacon Hill Rd. Robert A. Smith, Hewitt, Age 18 Officer was dispatched to the above location on a parking complaint. Upon arrival officer observed several vehicles parked on the side of above location. While writing summons for the vehicles illegally parked he observed a vehicle pass very slowly. As the vehicle was passing it was determined that the odor of marijuana was coming from inside the vehicle. Officer initiated a motor vehicle stop. The driver was found to be in possession of marijuana and “knuckles” weapons. Driver was transported to headquarters where he was processed. Summonses were issued for No parking, Provisional Drivers License, Possession of CDS, Unlawful weapon. P.O. Shannon Sommerville Oct. 14 - DWI - Route 23/Echo Lake Road Joseph Ascoli, East Rutherford, Age 61 Officer David VanDalinda was traveling Route 23 southbound when he was notified by dispatch that a concerned motorist was following a possible intoxicated driver on Route 23 South/Paradise Road. Officer observed the vehicle and found him to be driving in an erratic manner. Driver was subsequently arrested for DWI. P.O. David VanDalinda Oct. 14 - Search and Rescue - Terrace Pond Monica Alfaro, Lake Hiawatha, age 37 Mark Wulitzer, Lake Hiawatha, age 46 On the above date at 5:19 pm it was reported that two hikers were lost in the woods near Terrace Pond. Search and Rescue was dispatched along with Upper Greenwood Lake Volunteer Ambulance Corp. The Search and Rescue Team located both individuals, no injuries. P.O. Casey Casbarro
