January 19 - DWI - Route 23/Paradise Road Michael Dassatti, Sussex, Age 20 While monitoring traffic on Route 23 North, Officer Lewis Rose observed the above weaving in the lane. Vehicle crossed over the fog line and center line of the highway. A motor vehicle stop was conducted, and a strong odor of alcoholic beverage was observed. Driver was arrested for DWI. P.O. Lewis Rose January 19 - Criminal Mischief - Highlander Drive It was reported that an unknown actor caused damage to a wooden shed outside the West Milford High School by the auto shop. The shed appears to have been kicked or struck with an unknown object, causing a hole about one foot wide and one foot long. P.O. Laura Paul January 19 - DWI/Failure to submit to breath tests - Oak Ridge Road Erik Musser, West Milford, Age 22 On the above date Officer Charles McQuaid was dispatched to the parking lot of Fairy Tale Forest on the call of a hit and run accident. The vehicle that was struck tracked the vehicle from Grove Street where the MVA took place to the parking lot at Fairy Tale Forest. After speaking to the accused the officer found physical evidence to be positive that these two vehicles were involved in a collision with each other. While speaking with the accused an odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected. Driver (above) was arrested for DWI and failure to submit to breath tests. P.O. Charles McQuaid January 19 - MVA - Grove Street #1 - Erik Musser, West Milford, Age 22 #2 - Linda Klim, West Milford, Age 48 V1 traveling on Grove Street toward Paradise Road struck V2 while it was parked in front of a residence on Grove Street facing same way. Damage to the rear and driver side of Vehicle 2. The front passenger side window of V1 was smashed out and the side mirror was ripped off. The sideswipe caused body damage to both. D1 was placed under arrest for DWI. P.O. Charles McQuaid January 21 - MVA/Failure to keep right - Route 23/Doremus Road John Gardocki, Stockholm, Age 53 While on patrol Officer Charles McQuaid was just north of Oak Ridge Road and observed a vehicle traveling northbound swerving back and forth in and out of the left hand lane, from over the fog line to over the centerline. A traffic stop was conducted. A strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was observed. Driver was arrested for DWI and failure to keep right. P.O. Charles McQuaid January 12 - MVA - Union Valley Road Matthew Leahy, Highland Lakes, Age 25 Vehicle went off the right shoulder of the road, struck a road sign, broke off a utility pole, and came to rest in a ditch in the woods. Driver fled the scene prior to police arrival. Driver issued summons for careless driving and leaving the scene of an accident. P.O. Dennis O’Donnell January 15 - Burglary/Theft - Route 23 North Officer Lewis Rose and Officer Stephen Braikovich responded to the Getty Station on an alarm. Upon arrival found the front door forced open and cigarettes and candy knocked to the floor. Unknown amount of cigarettes were taken. P.O. Stephen Braikovich January 15 - Burglary/Theft - Oak Ridge Road While on patrol Officer Lewis Rose observed the front door glass smashed at the Oak Ridge Pub. P.O. Greer responded. A search of the building was conducted and observed the cash register removed from the bar. Under investigation. P.O. Lewis Rose January 13 - DWI - Warwick Turnpike Christine Flanagan, West Milford, Age 36 While on patrol Officer Gary Yarnall observed the above vehicle with no front license plate stopped in the middle of the roadway perpendicular to the flow of traffic. Officer made a U-turn in the roadway and began to follow vehicle. While observing vehicle it was traveling at a low rate of speed. A check through Div. Of Motor Vehicles revealed that the vehicles registration had expired. Based on officer’s observations, he activated emergency lights and performed a motor vehicle stop on Warwick Turnpike. Driver was observed to be DWI. Driver was charged with DWI, careless driving, and no front license plate. P.O. Gary Yarnall January 13 - MVA - Union Valley Road #1 - Stephen Blehl, West Milford, Age 22 #2 - Peter Phung, West Milford, Age 19 V1 coming out of side street, Pinecliff Lake Drive, attempting to make a left turn onto Union Valley Road. V2 was traveling southbound in the far right lane. D1 reported that he saw V2 approaching and tried to stop. D2 reported that V1 came out of the road and it looked like he stopped but he continued to drive. V2 tried to stop but the brakes locked up and he tried to swerve to avoid a collision. D1 issued summons for failure to yield right of way and D2 issued summons for failure to exhibit documents. P.O. Suzanne Novakowski January 14 - Underage DWI - Marshall Hill Road Richard Vanschaik, West Milford, Age 20 On the above date while on patrol in the Shop Rite parking lot, officer observed an individual seated in the drivers seat in a slumped over position. Officer approached the driver side of the running vehicle to see if the operator needed medical attention. The driver appeared to be confused and stated that he had fallen asleep. Driver was arrested for DWI Underage, consumption in a motor vehicle, and open container in a motor vehicle. P.O. Gary Yarnall January 18 - DWI - Marshall Hill Road Howard Stillman, West Milford, Age 61 While on patrol dispatch advised units of an erratic driver that a passing motorist had observed. While parked in a lot at above location, officer observed the accused traveling on Union Valley Road. Officer followed the vehicle onto Marshall Hill Road and observed the driver to be having difficulty maintaining a lane. Driver was subsequently arrested for DWI. P.O. Suzanne Novakowski
