WEST MILFORD You no doubt have seen Rotary signs in your travels around town and in cities across the country. You will also find our recognizable wheel logo in over 160 counties throughout the world. What you may not know, however, is that Rotary is probably a part of your everyday life. There are four avenues of Rotary services: Club; Community; Vocational; and International Intersect. On the community avenue here in West Milford you would find: The Gazebo at Bubbling Springs Lake where you can spend an evening enjoying live entertainment. The second Christmas in July at VanDyk Senior Community, a joy for people of all ages. The mural of the township logo donated by West Milford Rotary. Next is the avenue of Vocational Service which is the opportunity of each Rotarian to represent the dignity of one’s vocation to both the other members of the club and to the community. Vocational service is best demonstrated through Rotary’s commitment to West Milford’s schools and students, such as: The annual Career Day, a model for other Career Days for the rest of the state. Providing dictionaries to all third-grade students within the West Milford Public School system. The Interact Club at the high school, a service and social club for students between ages 14 to 18 that fosters leadership and citizenship. Participation in the Rotary Youth Leadership Award program where two high school juniors attend a six-day all-expense-paid conference focusing on leadership. Annual scholarships. On the avenue of International Service, West Milford Rotary participates in the Gift of Life Program. A few years ago they brought a 2-year old girl from the Ukraine who had a congenital heart condition requiring surgery not available in the Ukraine. The youngster, named Sofia, and her mother spent a couple of months living with a host family. Her surgery was successful and she can now live a normal life because of the generosity of West Milford Rotarians. Finally, there is the avenue of Club Service the reason these things happen. Because of their commitment to the club and to the principals of Rotary, they have succeeded on all four avenues of service for the past 48 years. The club meets every Tuesday at 12:15 p.m. at Village Square Inn. If you are interested in participating in some of the programs mentioned, you are invited to attend a meeting to see what they are all about.
