It seems many people are. The adoption rates for black cats in shelters are much lower than adoption rates for cats of other colors. The West Milford Animal Shelter currently has 15 black cats and kittens available for adoption. There are many myths and superstitions about black cats. In some areas of Europe and the United States black cats are considered to be evil or connected with witchcraft. But in Britain and Australia black cats are considered lucky. But just like people, it isn’t what’s on the outside but what’s on the inside that matters. A loving companion that is tendered hearted, outgoing, shy, playful or calm is what’s important not a color. Buddy is one of the black cats available for adoption. He came into the shelter with facial injuries that seemed to be caused by burns. Between his eyes was a hole with a flap of skin hanging off the bottom edge. His injuries have healed but they left light scaring. He also suffered fur loss because of stress. His fur is slowly growing back. Despite his difficulties, Buddy is extremely outgoing, loving and friendly. He takes a few moments to warm up to people but once he does his winning personality breaks through.
