To the Editor: I would like to respond to the recent letters concerning the NJ bear hunt. A) Baiting is a moral, ethical and legal way to hunt for any game animal. I wouldn’t go fishing without a worm on my hook. If you hunt near an apple tree, that’s the same as baiting, If you hunt in a cornfield, that’s the same as baiting, if you use scents that’s the same as baiting. It simply is a tactic for being successful in the field. B) There is no such thing as a defenseless animal. Animals have senses fine tuned beyond our belief and would be wiped off the planet without them. A bear has claws and teeth and a sense of smell 100 times more powerful than a humans. A bear has the strength to break into a car or a locked house and you call this defenseless! Yes, Virginia you are an animal rights whacko. Animal rights activist armed with video cameras have one purpose — to harass hunters to the point to where someone loses their cool and let the camera roll — creating an “incident. Once again our freedoms are under attack, rural culture is being destroyed by environmental activists who wish to cut humans off from the land. You can’t even ride an ATV or motorcycle anymore. I remember when West Milford embraced rural culture and now we’re being pushed out by high taxes and people who are trying to turn West Milford into Bergen county. Eric Bunk West Milford
