Change the status quo

To the editor: Letters to the editor and view points recently published in our local newspapers have been overwhelmingly authored by the majority-party in town, the Republicans. Many of these letters have been very negative and have often times attacked the Democrats. The letters have complained about what has been accomplished, what has not been accomplished, and what should be accomplished. Yet the Republicans have held the majority of all of the votes in town for over three years. This is true for the council (4 - 2 Republican majority) as well as all of the important boards and committees, whose members are directly appointed by the council or our Republican mayor. Being the majority-party on council, boards, and committees, the Republicans have set the tone, set the direction, and literally made all of the decisions. Yet they complain about the lack of progress in town and the high taxes. I believe we need more balance in our government, we need to protect our environment and our quality of life, we need to stabilize our taxes, and we need more open and honest government. We do not need the status quo. It is for that reason that I will be casting my votes for the Democrats this year, Jim Geist and James Rauth. Bettina Bieri West Milford
