Clarifying a story

To the Editor, Your story “Debate over open government bill” (April 7) included a sentence that was misleading and it should be clarified. While I wish that Senate Bill 1219 was “at the committee stage” as your story reported, that is not so. What’s accurate is: S1219 has been assigned to the Senate’s State Government Committee but hearings on the proposed and much-needed reform of the Open Public Meetings Act haven’t yet been scheduled. Considering everything going on in Trenton revolving around Gov. Jon Corzine and his budget, I don’t expect S1219 to arrive at the committee stage until the fall and that may be optimistic. In the interim your readers can keep posted about the bill’s progress and how at least several local public officials are desperate to avoid being held accountable to the public by checking our website www.njsunshinelaw.com.
